now THAT'S an animal worth taking under water. cats have brains that can comprehend at least some stuff, where as hamsters cannot comprehend that well.
One question: have you accounted for hamsters' tendency to gnaw through their environment? I just discovered this site, and its the one thing I can't get out of my mind. Every rodent pet I've had would chew through any plastic environment. Only metal was a safe environment, but likely not practical for this venture. Perhaps hedgehogs that lack incisors would be a better bet? However, hedgehogs are not social animals, and two boars will kill each other. You would need two opposite sex hedgies. They are also larger than hamsters, sadly being more difficult to build for.
