Hello, what's this?

If there's a larger transparent water-tight container on the market, I haven't seen it. Looks like it'd need three ballast pods for a total of 30lbs. This electric heater pad would fit neatly inside on the second floor where air would insulate it from losing heat to the outside water. Should be possible to put together for less than $300. Right now all donations are going to more helium for Skyhab, but if someone wanted to be my secret santa and buy this drybox I'd commit to building a new 2-story Hampture.

  1. Hey, I have an idea to connect the habitats(if you want to). You could build each add-on module with a pipe like dryer vent hoses, just clear and flexible. Then you dive down to the main module, plug the tube into a gasket in the side of the main module, pump out the water by pumping in air and then open the gasket. I know there are kinks to be worked out, but it's just an idea. This would also allow you to place the city on an uneven lake bottom because all the modules don't need to be on a level ground.

  2. If you could link me to the specific gasket used, certainly. Purging water with pressurized air definitely occurred to me, it's just a matter of finding a fitting for the tubes that is watertight when closed but can easily be opened from the outside by hand.

  3. Okay, it looks like what I want is a PVC ball valve. Now I'll look for one that's threaded, so you can screw on one end of a flexible tube.

  4. ....Or a gate valve? This looks even better. Much less clunky/obtrusive.

And here's some transparent flexible hose. I'll have to look harder to match the diameters but this is a strong start:

I'm likely to make a blog post about this when I get it figured out
